Cultural Highlight- Chinese age

The Chinese people use two methods to count their age.

One is called shí suì 实岁--full age, the other one is called xū suì 虚岁--function age.

In the past or nowadays in the traditional family, people like using xū suì 虚岁 method. With this method, the children are considered one year old as soon as they are born and two years old after the following Lunar New Year. For example, a child who is born on New Year's Eve would be two years old on New Year's Day.
